Sharks are voracious eaters. As the Apex predator of the sea they will feed continually on live bait, dead bait, cut bait and frozen bait.
Small baits caught using light tackle, Sabiki rigs, or cast nets will all catch shark. Just about any species especially if you cut the tail to make them swim erratically.
These Thumbnails are all baits that will catch
Shark.
Hook the bait using a circle hook on a wire leader.
As shown in this Thumbnail make sure the hook
is strong enough not to bend like this one did. Was trying to
catch whitting to use as bait fish and a shark hit and bent the hook
next to the boat.
Use a chum bag or other chum method to help attract Shark and you have a winning combination.
Eels are another favorite food of Sharks. They are difficult to work with but they have a great motion that sharks can’t resist.
For Cut baits I use Mullet, Blue Fish, Lady Fish and squid. Actually any bait Fish left over from previous fishing will work.
Smaller sharks and Bonnethead sharks will also bite Shrimp and Berkley Gulp baits or other Power bait Products.
I have heard that Dying the squid red or blue with food color will increase hook-ups but have never tried this yet myself.

A whitting on a shark rig. I use a zip tie to help keep the rig in place.
Here is a fish head that I caught a Shark on. A Shark had bitten the bottom half of the bait off when it was Live.
